Middlebury
defeated New England 24-5 today, just beating by about 5 minutes
torrential
downpours and lightning. Our women are
currently waiting out the
storm, trying to
get in a playoff game vs. Plymouth State.
Thanks to Brandon
Doyle and Nick Whitman for the updates during the game.
The most telling
stat is probably the shot differential: Middlebury 75 NEC
15. Nick Whitman was correct, the NCAA squad
limitation is 28. 25 of our
28 players who
dressed are guys who would play in any one goal mid-season
game. It is not easy to keep the score down. In addition, we have not
played in a week
and a half, sorry but you have to turn the boys loose.
The game ball went
to our 4th attackman, Sophomore Greg Carroll, who had 5
goals and 2
assists. He played an excellent
game. In fact, we are pleased
with the
performance. We sell every game of the
year that we don't care
about our
opponent, we focus on our game. So,
this was no different. We
were playing
against our own standard of excellence and in many ways we were
successful. Our riding and ground ball play was
relentless. For the guys
who do not
know...we wear a Middlebury Lacrosse T-shirt under our uniform
which reads
"RELENTLESS" on the back...it is the word this team has chosen
to describe how we
aspire to play. It is also a word that
can describe our
program over its
history. We try to ride and ground ball
relentlessly and
play relentless
defense, just as our predecessors taught us!
I know guys are
curious, so a note on NEC. They are
comparable to the
bottom teams in
our league. Their starting attack had
amassed over 300
points this
season, and they are not bad, but not to the level of NESCAC.
Their goalie had a
nice day with over 20 saves. They
played very hard,
never quit, and
are well-coached by a great guy Rob Quinn, no relation.
We will play the
winner of the RIT/Springfield game Sunday, at either 12:00
or 1:00, specific time TBA.
