Just returned from the North/South
weekend at Johns Hopkins.
We had Dave Seeley, Zach Herbert and Matt Dunn in the game.
Sebby Astrada and Nick Lesher were also voted in, but only 3 can attend per
team. The weekend began with practices/scrimmages versus the D1 teams on
Friday. I am being completely objective when I say it was apparent that
many of the D3 guys were over their heads, but not the 3 Middlebury
players. They definitely belonged on the field. The scrimmages were
fairly low key and D1 dominated, unlike last year when the
The All American banquet was nice on Friday night.
Seeley, Herbert, Dunn and Astrada were all 1st Team, Lesher was 3rd Team and Mike Frissora
was Honorable Mention. All of the guys were in attendance except Nick who
was flying out for a class the next day from NY so he could not attend. Lesher and Seeley were also Scholar All Americans.
The team was also honored as National Champions and as the winner of the Ace
Adams Sportsmanship Award (as voted by the officials). Dunn was honored
as the Midfielder of the Year and the Player of the Year for D3. John
Fellows from
The North/South game was great for the Middlebury
players. Seeley was the game's Most Valuable Player with 4 goals and
Herbert had 3 or 4 goals and a couple of assists in a dramatic 17-16 victory
for the North. Those numbers are even more impressive when you consider that
there are 6 attackmen, so each of them only plays
half of the game. 4 goals in half an All Star game for each of our attackmen is not bad. Dunn
was impressive as well with a goal and an assist and several great
opportunities. Other stand outs included: Fellows from Washington College started the game
strong with a couple of goals but disappeared; Tom Brown a big attackman from Western Maryland played great with 5 goals, including
a couple of impressive cannons from the outside, I thought the MVP came down to
Seeley, Herbert and Brown.
