Sorry for the delay of a
couple of days on a wrap up from the Skidmore scrimmage. Before I get into the scrimmage I do want to
give you heads up that you will be receiving an email from me shortly that will
give some details on this year's Alumni Weekend. As you know from previous emails, the Alumni
Weekend this year will include a viewing of the "Kohnumentary"
as well as a dinner with the men and women alumni honoring/celebrating Peter
and an Alumni Game on Sunday.
It was a fairly lackluster
performance against Skidmore. It is
always difficult to pin down the root causes of these performances but they can
probably be divided into things we control and things we don't. In the category of things we don't control,
the weather has kept us in for all but two practices this year, so we are
behind in our full field developent. It showed up mostly in our understanding of a
full field, game situation tempo. Our offensive players were taking ill-advised
shots, early in possessions, mostly stick side high into the goalie's
stick! In the category of things we
control, one of the potential causes of these problems is the lack of
experience and guys trying to win jobs or establish themselves, instead of
playing smart, team oriented lacrosse. This problem was compounded by spending
most of the first quarter in the penalty box.
Needless to say it was a slow start and took us a couple of quarters to
adjust.
There were a couple of
bright spots. Krieger continued to play
well in (and out of) the goal. John West
played great at D, creating several fast/slow break opportunities and playing
with great enthusiasm. Ed Brown looked
excellent at close defense as well after missing the
Practice last night was
great. I think the Skidmore scrimmage
sharpened the focus, as I am sure entering the week before our first game has
as well. We open Saturday vs.
I will get back later with
Alumni Weekend information and will keep you abreast on any developments in the
weather which might impact our game this weekend.
