Two upsets occured today in VT in the NESCAC Semi's with Williams
beating us in OT and with Bowdoin upending Wesleyan 11-9. Hats off to
Williams for playing a great game from start to finish, they played hard and
executed their game plan brilliantly.
I would say that our team
also played very hard but there were just too many mental mistakes and missed
opportunities to beat that Williams team. They opened up the game with a
2-0 lead and would hold onto a 1 or 2 goal lead the rest of the way.
I believe we came back to tie it up on 4 different occasions but couldn't get
the next one to put us up a goal. Our team showed great mental toughness
to keep coming back but at the same time lacked focus once we would tie things
up. Something we can certainly work on....
Both goalies played well and
both made some great stops. I would have to say that even though their
goalie made more saves I think ours was tested more.
They have a tremendous face
off specialist and he won some big face offs but Dave Campbell won a few at the
end of regulation that kept us in the game.
Both teams came up with some
big plays in critical situations and they ended up making one more than we
did. Overall it was a great effort by our guys but Williams was the
better team today.
We are hoping for an at
large birth into the NCAA tourney and will find out if that's the case tomorrow
night. If we get another chance to play this season we will certainly
learn from today's loss and be a better team because of it.
