We
came away with a good road win yesterday down in Troy, NY in what I'd say is
one of the nicest stadiums I've ever played or coached in. If you haven't seen the new RPI athletic
complex, it's worth checking out online.
We
didn't play a great 60 minutes of lacrosse but we did finally show some mental
toughness in a close game. I've been
waiting to see this group play hard and play with confidence ever since the
W&L game. Hopefully it's something
we can build on going into this weekend down in Medford.
Defensively
we played well but the backbone of our defensive group is Ryan Deane. He's playing very well right now and really
making teams think twice about pulling the trigger from anywhere outside of
11-12 yards. Matt Rayner
continues to be a disruptive force at close defense and Charlie Schopp has really been a lock down one on one defender for
most of the year.
Offensively
we're still struggling to get in a rhythm but the good news is that some young
guys are stepping up and making contributions.
Stew Kerr stuck a nice righty shot on man up yesterday and Scott Redmond
finished two as well. First year Erich Pfeffer scored our first goal of the game when we were
having some trouble generating offense.
He was matched up with the pole and went hard to the hoop and stuck a
righty shot in the lower corner from about 7 yards out. He went on to get us going in the 2nd half as
well with a nice feed to Tim Cahill.
We
also had a nice day facing off, both Brian Foster and Peter Jennings did a good
job on the draws and Zach Driscoll was excellent on the wing.
Next
up is 11-1 Tufts after their win over Endicott last night. They are a very good transition team with a
potent attack unit that already has 119 points between the three starters. Should be another great NESCAC match up,
hopefully we'll see some of you there!
