We
took a step in the right direction yesterday with a pretty solid performance
against a tough Skidmore team and came away with the win 11-9. The biggest factors in this game were our
face off men, our goaltending, and a good performance on offense by David Hild. Brian Foster
and Peter Jennings ended up winning a combined 17 out of 23 face offs on the
day and also handled the ball well in the middle of the field.
Once
again Ryan Deane was excellent in cage for us and made Skidmore earn everything
they got on the scoreboard.
Finally,
David Hild stepped up the way we've been hoping he
would by scoring 3 goals and adding 2 assists.
I really have to credit Dave for bouncing back after a so-so performance
against Bowdoin where he actually scored 2 of our 6 goals. On Monday in our film session with the team
it was made clear that he didn't take advantage of some good opportunities vs.
the Polar Bears and he wasn't the only one letting these opportunities slip
away. Yesterday it was not only Dave who
decided to step up and play big for us but some other guys followed his
lead. Senior captain Jeff Begin stuck a
shot in the first quarter to extend our lead and freshman Mike Giordano
assisted and scored on our first two goals.
Another freshman who is showing some promise is Erich Pfeffer who added a goal and an assist. Pfeff has earned
the right to be out on the field more as we get into the home stretch, expect
to see more out of him in our upcoming games.
No
time to relax here as we have the Trinity Bantams coming to town on
Saturday. They've had a down year so far
but just beat up on a pretty good Eastern CT. team yesterday. I've also learned over the past few years
that they get up for this game like no other, should be a good one.
