For the third time in four games we found
ourselves in overtime on Saturday up in Brunswick and unfortunately came out on
the losing end. After Tim Giarrusso tied the ball game
up at 8 with less than a minute left and a flag was thrown for a high hit we
looked to be in good shape but unfortunately we lost the face off and never saw
the ball again. Bowdoin did a good job of killing off the clock in
regulation and keeping the ball into OT where they found a sneaking attackman
on the backside for the game winner.
Once again our guys played their tails off and
showed some resiliency as we gave up some backbreaking goals throughout the
game. Bowdoin scored at the end of the first quarter with less than 4
seconds to go and then also to end the third on a full field pass that was
completed on the doorstep to take an 8-6 lead. Our defense responded well
and tightened up in the 4th quarter allowing us to get back into it but we couldn't
get over the hump.
Captain Harrison Goodkind
continues to play his best in big games, he did a great job on the defensive
end and in the middle of the field. John Jackson was his usual self at
the face off x as well and continues to improve as we get further into the
season. Finally, Will Ernst made all the saves he should have made and
stole a few, he played well enough for us to get the w.
Offensively we have some good pieces but are
inconsistent and are easily taken out of our game at this point in the season.
We will need to make some significant strides going forward.
Not much time for this group to lick their
wounds with undefeated and soon to be #1 or #2 ranked RIT (8-0) coming up on
Wednesday in the Carrier Dome. We'll then host #5 Amherst on Saturday,
time to buckle up!
