It was a great day to be a
Panther yesterday up in Canton. We were
welcomed to some unseasonably warm weather as it was around fifty degrees at
game time last night. It was also great
to see some familiar faces on the sideline with Mike and Sara Jennings there to
watch their middle son Charlie play, and then the DiLisio's
as well (Bob '80, Kelli, and Ned '13) were there to catch Luke play against
Middlebury for the final time.
St. Lawrence has some nice
pieces on offense this year with some dangerous attackmen
and a crafty midfield group under the coaching of Tom Ryan
(Bowdoin) the past few
years. They came out flying and quickly
took a 5-3 lead after the first and an 8-6 lead at halftime. The Saints did a great job throughout the
game of coming up with most of the 50/50 balls and caused some turnovers in the
middle of the field thanks to their hustle on the ride.
Fortunately for us, we've
played in a number of close games already this year which helped our group stay
focused in the 2nd half. We're starting
to build the mindset that all good teams share where it's only a matter of time
until we tilt the field in our favor. We
went on a 5-0 run to start the 2nd half that lasted into the 4th quarter and
held on for the win 13-11.
Once again, Will Ernst was
excellent in the cage and made a few saves he shouldn't have which helped
frustrate the Larries. The game ball went to first year face off
specialist John Jackson, who by our count, went 17-25 on the day.
We definitely have some
things to clean up in the middle of the field and in terms of getting the ball
off the ground but this group has a big upside this spring. So far the leadership from our senior class
has been outstanding and hopefully they can continue to help push this group to
another level. We'll need it this
Saturday against Wesleyan at home, game time is 2pm.
Thanks for all of the
emails/texts last night! We appreciate
the support!
