After a long couple of
days up here in VT, it was good to get back out on the field last night up in
Plattsburgh. As I'm sure many of you have heard by now, we took one on the chin
on Saturday against a very good Tufts squad.
They were better in every facet of the game and certainly exposed our
weaknesses in every possible way. I give
their coaches and kids a ton of credit for being that polished after only two
weeks of practice, they did an incredible job.
Once we shoveled the field
on Sunday morning we were able to have a productive practice followed by some
film and a walk through in the gym on Monday as we weren't able to get
outside. Needless to say, I was anxious
to see what we had in us last night as we stepped on the field with a talented
and fired up Plattsburgh squad.
The temperature was in the
low teens yesterday as we took the field and we were treated to snow flurries
throughout the game. By the 4th quarter we ended up switching to orange balls
as the players were having a hard time seeing the white ball on the snow
covered field.
As far as the game itself,
Plattsburgh ended up committing 12 penalties including 5 unnecessary roughness
fouls and an unsportsmanlike conduct.
Only one was a multiple minute foul although a few others could have
easily been called that way. Not only
did our group step up to the physical challenge, we ended up winning the ground
ball battle and kept our composure with all of the extracurricular activity
going on out on the field.
We still have some glaring
weaknesses but last night was a good sign as this group displayed some grit and
resiliency after a humbling game on Saturday.
I'm looking forward to a few productive days with these guys until we
face off against the Camels this weekend.
Thanks for all the texts and emails since the Tufts game, your support
means a lot to me and to the team.
