I am happy to announce that some of our fellow Club members have sent in generous contributions to the Gevertz '83 Memorial Fund.

So far the following Club members have sent in contributions:
Peterson '86
Coash '82
Willett '90
Chafee '85
Beams '66

Thanks guys!

IMPORTANT........... Please note that I will be forwarding all checks made payable to Middlebury College to the College and I will make sure that the funds are credited to you and deposited into the Gevertz Fund.  The College will mail you a receipt for tax purposes.

BUT......... all guys planning on traveling to Vail this summer must send me a check for $55 payable to the Middlebury Alumni Lacrosse Club.  I cannot deposit checks made payable to Middlebury College.  If you want to send a few extra dollars for the Gevertz Fund and you don't care about tax deductions, I will collect all funds over the $55 amount and list your name and year and send a combined check from the Club to the College.

What about Bruce?    For those of you who might not know what happened to Bruce Gevertz '83, here is a very short synopsis.  At Middlebury College, Bruce was a member of the KDR fraternity and played football and lacrosse.  I think a bunch of us can relate to that description!  Bruce was at the top of his game during the winter of 1998.   He was a managing director at Bear Sterns and he was married to his college sweetheart with whom he had several young children.  Out of the blue, he went home from work on the Friday before the holidays with a fever and over the weekend he developed pneumonia and died soon after arriving at a hospital the following Monday.  Bruce had his spleen removed (? sports injury) years earlier and therefore he was susceptible to certain types of bacterial infections.  But he was a perfectly healthy adult and his death was a serious blow to his family and friends.  I was able to attend the memorial services later in the week and I must admit that my life has not been the same since that day.  I look at things in a very different way and, in fact, I changed several things in my life that very day.  While I only knew Bruce for a short time, he was the kind of guy you don't forget.  So let's all contribute generously to a fund that will memorialize Bruce and what Bruce was all about.  Someday there will be scholar athletes at Middlebury who will be the beneficiaries of our contributions in Bruce's memory.  They will help carry forward what Bruce started and what he didn't get to finish.
